A Mercedes-Benz truck bought new in 1990 remained stored in a warehouse in the city of Osasco, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, for more than three decades.

Then the blue Mercedes 1618, which had only 40 km on the odometer, ended up in the hands of classic vehicle dealer Reginaldo Ricardo, from Campinas (SP).
Reginaldo bought the vehicle and resold it about two years ago to a collector. In a conversation with the website UOL, he said he learned about the existence of the truck through a friend who was close to the original owner.

Although he did not share how much he paid for the vehicle or the resale price, Reginaldo emphasized that the amount was equivalent to that of a brand-new truck with similar specifications.
According to Reginaldo, the former owner bought the blue Mercedes 1618 and another identical truck, but painted white. While the white one was heavily used, the blue one was kept as a kind of savings during a period when Brazil was facing a problem of hyperinflation.
Reginaldo reported that the vehicle was in excellent condition. The plastic still protected the checkered fabric seats, as if the truck had just left the dealership. The steering wheel and dashboard also showed no signs of use.

Despite the mechanical part being “in order,” according to Reginaldo, this type of vehicle is intended for collectors. He said it is not worth paying a lot for an old zero-mileage truck just to drive it around.
“If that were the case, the vehicle would lose what makes it special and become just a lightly used second-hand example,” the specialist added.
